Heartbreaker
Riley is involved in a “luv triangle.” She gets all giggly around one of the boys in her class this year (who was also in her class last year) and tosses her hair back when he’s in the room. I have heard that she just “lights up” when he walks through the door. There’s another boy in her class, Matthew, who just LOVES Riley (and she loves his attention). One day, Riley was sitting with her mainstream class in the lunchroom and Matthew was sitting at a different table (with their AU class). He cried giant tears over the fact that Riley wasn’t sitting with them.
Today, Riley and I went on a field trip to the NC Museum of Natural Science with her mainstream class, and then Riley went home with me from the field trip, so she didn’t spend much time in her AU classroom. While we were at school picking Adam up, we had an opportunity to talk with two of Riley’s teachers, who told us that this sweet little boy had cried all day because he missed Riley. After relaying the story to me, Ms. Michelle called back to Riley, “Matthew missed you today, Riley!”
Riley smiled wide, tossed that head, and said, “I know. Matthew loves me.”
